The Middler is pleased to begin its 2019 program with an exhibition of recent photographs by Carter Seddon, opening Thursday April 4th and on view by appointment until Sunday, June 9th (extended from May 13th). The show is comprised of 9 framed digital inkjet prints.
Carter Seddon’s new work continues to draw on the promotional or decorative imagery that can be seen in the margins of online articles, subways and offices among other places. Glimpsed briefly, these images end up lodged in some corner of consciousness where they sit on reserve. The photographs in this show were made under the influence of these images, which appear here in a reconstituted or approximated form. At the same time the photographs are also records of the specificities of daily life which situates them somewhere between fantasy and drab realism.
Carter Seddon (b. 1986 San Francisco, CA) lives in New York. He has had a solo exhibition at Jenny’s, Los Angeles in 2015 and has participated in group exhibitions at Silberkuppe, Berlin, On Purpose, San Rafael, Jimmy Hoo, Brussels and Night Gallery, Los Angeles. He received an MFA from University of California, Riverside in 2013.
